  1. Hold On

Backstory: I was feeling sorry for myself because I justifiably was been grounded by my parents for undisclosed tomfoolery.
No phone. No car. No guests.
Certainly, NO ONE could have had it worse than me, in that moment.
Yet, when it came to actually writing this, I took a more positive perspective of a perceived, lousy situation. Things COULD always get worse. When the song was actually released nearly 40 years later, a suicide prevention society executive heard the song, and requested permission to use for their telephone, on-hold music.
Although I wasn’t suicidal when writing it, I saw the connection that they saw. I figured that, if it might help maybe one person take a breath, sit back and reassess things, I’d be honored and humbled to grant permission to use the recording, gratis.
Never found out whether it helped anyone, or not.
But the request alone was uplifting.
Help IS out there.
You just got find it.

Lyrics

Hold On
You’ve gotta make due with what you’ve got.
And, that may not be a lot.
You may see no sense to it all.
(But) things rise up soon after they fall.
You gotta…

CHORUS
Hold on till tomorrow. Hold on for today.
I can’t right all your sorrows.
The tables will turn toward your way.

A wee bit older, everyday.
Outside it’s colder than yesterday.
You fight the traffic to make your wage.
Put on the day’s face, and you, you go on-stage.

CHORUS
Hold on till tomorrow. Hold on for today.
I can’t right all your sorrows.
The tables will turn toward your way.

(A) troubled head, a boggled mind.
Daddy shoutin’, ‘Walk this line.”
In a cloud, your private land.
Seems that no one understands.
But you gotta…

CHORUS
Hold on till tomorrow. Hold on for today.
I can’t right all your sorrows.
The tables will turn toward your way.

You’ve gotta make due with what you’ve got.
(A) troubled head, a boggled mind.
And, that may not be a lot.
Daddy shoutin’, ‘Walk this line.”
You may see no sense to it all.
In a cloud, your private land.
(But) things rise soon after they fall.
Seems that no one understands.

CHORUS
Hold on til tomorrow. Hold on for today.
I can’t deal with your sorrows.
The tables will turn. The tables will turn.
The tables will turn toward your way.

And, I’ll hold on, and on. I’ll hold on.
Hold on.
In a cloud. (6 x)
Hold on. Hold on. I’ll hold on.
